about My Better Half Marathon
Like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, wine and cheese, Netflix and your couch, we are better together! The race features three distances (5K, 10K and half marathon) and a half marathon relay so everyone can find a distance that suits them. As our first race of the year, we like to make this one a little more fun, with an extensive and delicious oatmeal bar (not in 2022 due to Covid), a large heated tent, nice race shirts. Walkers are welcome.
Environmentally Responsible Racing
Save a Tee Plant a Tree
Trees not Tees help events reduce their environmental impact with one simple strategy – offering participants the choice of turning down a free race tee and planting a tree instead.
Orca Running is partnering with Trees not Tees to help reduce the huge number of unwanted and unworn finisher’s tees produced each year and destined to become landfill.
After the event, participants who selected the option to have a tree planted receive a photo and GPS coordinates of their tree’s location.
Online registration closes on February 12th at 8pm.
Half Marathon Relay (per person)
Please note that all registrations are non-refundable. Be sure to review our race policies.
Prices do not include processing fees. Online pre-registration closes the day before the race at 8:00pm.

All courses run along the beautiful shores of Lake Washington for almost the entirety of their distances.
Half Marathon: The half marathon course is a total of 3 laps. The first lap has a steep but quick hill and is 3.1 miles in length. Laps 2 and 3 are each 5 miles long and are nice and flat!
10K: The 10K course is a total of 2 laps. The first lap has some hills in the beginning and is 3.7 miles long whereas the second lap is nice and flat and is 2.5 miles in length!
5K: The 5k course is the same as the half marathon lap 1 course. A steep but quick hill in the beginning is a great warm-up but once you come back down it’s a breeze!
Half Marathon Relay: The relay course can be completed in any way you prefer, as long as all 3 laps are completed. One person can do lap 1 and 2, and the other person complete lap 3– it’s really up to you. There is a relay bracelet hand off area just before the finish line where you make the exchange from one runner to the other.
View the map below. Note that the half-marathon is 3 loops, the 10K is two loops and the 5K is one loop.
Orca Running is committed to reducing waste and protecting the environment. As part of this commitment, we are making all events cupless. The tiny little cups that are used for an instant generate tremendous amounts of garbage. We recommend you purchase a handheld bottle, a hydration pack, or we can provide you with a small re-useable cup that folds easily into your waistband to use during the entire race and future races.
We will have awards for the top 3 overall men and women finishers in each distance. All awards are handed out at the race.
Carpooling is highly recommended. There are about 200 parking spots in the Upper Loop of Seward Park, as well as ample parallel parking. You may need to walk a little ways to the start which is located at on the South side of the park so please plan ahead. There is also plenty of on-street parking around Seward Park all within walking distance.
Seattle is a huge city! There are TONS of accommodations, including hotels, AirBnBs, B&Bs, and everything in-between.
We have a clear set of policies that we uniformly follow for all races. Entries are not refundable, but you can defer your entry, transfer it to another race, or transfer it to another participant. You can review our full set of policies here.
Free gear check is available at My Better Half Marathon. In an effort to reduce waste, we will not be providing drop bags, so PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BAG. We will have identification tags for you to use.
Our charity partner for My Better Half Marathon is Rebuilding Together Seattle! The dollars donated go to help rebuild homes, repair lives and revitalize communities. Say hi to the amazing and friendly volunteers that support the race every year!
